ECHA's 2024-2028 Strategy: Tackling Key Regulatory Challenges in Chemical Safety
This strategy aims to advance chemical safety through science, collaboration, and knowledge, emphasising the protection of human health and the environment.

The European Commission has granted a Union-wide authorisation for the biocidal product family "Taski-Room Care-Suma Family" based on lactic acid. The authorisation, issued on 10 October 2024, covers product types 2, 3, and 4 under Regulation (EU) No 528/2012. It allows the product family to be marketed and used across the European Union, with the authorisation valid from 31 October 2024 to 30 September 2034.
The Taski-Room Care-Suma Family, manufactured by Diversey Europe Operations B.V., is designed for disinfection in industrial, institutional, and veterinary settings. These products utilise L-(+)-lactic acid as the active ingredient, effective against bacteria, enveloped viruses, and yeast. The family includes disinfectants for hard non-porous surfaces, some of which are intended for food contact areas.
The authorisation applies to three primary product types (PTs):
These products can be applied via manual methods, including spraying and dipping. Users are instructed to dilute the product to a specific concentration before application, with varying contact times depending on the target organism.
Diversey Europe Operations B.V. submitted an application for Union authorisation on 16 April 2019, and the evaluation was conducted by the Latvian competent authority. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) concluded the assessment in February 2023, affirming the product's compliance with safety and efficacy standards under the EU's Biocidal Products Regulation.
The biocidal products in this family carry hazard classifications such as causing severe skin burns, eye damage, and posing risks to respiratory tracts. Precautionary measures include the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during application, and proper storage and disposal protocols are recommended.
The approval of the Taski-Room Care-Suma Family offers industries, institutions, and veterinary services across the EU access to a broad-spectrum disinfectant that aligns with EU safety regulations. The 10-year authorisation period highlights the Commission's confidence in its continued compliance with environmental and health standards.
