ChemSec Adds Neurotoxicants to SIN List in Landmark Step for EU Chemicals Regulation
ChemSec updates the SIN List with neurotoxicants, spotlighting brain-damaging chemicals and urging EU regulators to act swiftly on these hidden threats.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued an urgent notice regarding the regulation of biocides within Great Britain. This notice includes essential deadlines for the renewal of active substances under the GB Biocidal Products Regulation (GB BPR), distinct from the EU counterpart. The notice also addresses an upcoming non-approval decision for a specific active substance.
Renewal Submission Deadlines
To ensure continued market presence, stakeholders must submit renewal applications for active substances 550 days before their current approval expires. The upcoming deadlines are pivotal for several active substances across various product types, specifically:

Non-Approval Decision
- Silver nitrate (CAS 7761-88-8 EC 231-853-9) in Product Type 1 is facing a non-approval decision due to a lack of compliant support within the GB Review Programme. This decision will prevent its use in biocidal products and the marketing of articles treated with such products in Great Britain.
Call for Feedback
The HSE is open to feedback regarding potential negative impacts of the non-approval decisions and encourages stakeholders to reach out by 20 April 2024.
